WOLVES CAPTURE CUP WITH GAME SIX WIN AGAINST PENGUINS

ROSEMONT, IL – Jason Krog’s hat trick powered the Chicago Wolves to the club’s second Calder Cup Championship, as the Wolves posted a 4-2 victory over the Penguins in Game Six to clinch the league’s playoff trophy.

Chicago drew first blood when Nathan Oystrick snuck a point shot between John Curry’s right skate and the post.  The power play goal was Oystrick’s third tally of the postseason, and came at 17:39 of the first period.

Bryan Little nearly doubled the advantage two minutes later, but failed to convert on a breakaway when the puck rolled off his stick and wide of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton net.

Jason Krog wouldn’t miss his chance from the slot though, as the Wolves’ leading scorer intercepted a Ryan Lannon clear two minutes into the second period and slammed home his 10th of the playoffs to put the home team up by two goals.

But the comeback kids weren’t done just yet.  Nathan Smith pulled up at the point during four-on-four play and put a shot on Chicago’s net.  The puck bounced off of Luca Caputi’s back and dropped in the crease, where the Penguins’ rookie poked it just over the goal line for his second goal in as many games.

Back-to-back penalties on Brett Sterling and Steve Martins gave the Pens a two-man advantage for 57 seconds, which was just enough time for Mark Ardelan to find the back of the net with a blast from the point to even the score at 2-2.

Krog scored on a three-on-two break 4:44 into the third period to put the home club back on top, then slipped a breakaway goal by John Curry at 15:23 to ice the game. Brett Sterling added a late tally off a rebound to finish off the scoring.
