CURRY SHUTS DOWN CRUNCH IN 2-1 WIN

SYRACUSE, NY –John Curry turned in his best performance of the season Saturday night, stopping 37 shots through regulation and overtime, then snuffing four of five shootout attempts to lead the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 2-1 win against the Syracuse Crunch.

The win, the Penguins' fourth in a tow, raised the team's record to 36-24-0-3 on the season. It also gave the Pens a bit of breathing room in the standings, as the win put them three points in front of the fourth place Hershey Bears who dropped a 5-4 decision to the Springfield Falcons on Saturday.

The 37 saves are a new career best for Curry, who won for the fifth time in his past six starts and the 16th time this season overall.

Jonathan Filewich gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead at the 6:47 mark of the second period, scoring his ninth goal of the season and first since February 20.

That score held until Alexandre Picard made the Crunch's fifth power play of the night count, as he picked up his sixth goal of the year.

Derick Brassard gave Syracuse a 1-0 lead in the shootout, scoring on the Crunch's first attempt. But Curry stopped the four ensuing tries, while Jean-Michel Daoust and Ryan Stone both beat Karl Goehring, giving the Penguins their second consecutive shootout win against their North Division rivals.

The contest was the eighth and final meeting between the teams this season, with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton taking seven victories.
