CURRY TURNS AWAY 34 IN WIN vs. PHANTOMS
PHILADELPHIA, PA –John Curry made 34 saves, and the Penguins rattled off three consecutive goals to post a 3-2 victory against the Philadelphia Phantoms on Tuesday night at the Wachovia Spectrum.
The win raised the Penguins' record to 34-24-0-3, and moved the team into third place in the East Division standings, one point ahead of the idle Hershey Bears.
The first place Phantoms lost their second consecutive game, and now have a record of 38-20-2-3.
The Penguins power play came alive on Tuesday, as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went two for five on the man advantage. Both of Philadelphia's goals were special teams tallies, as Darroll Powe opened the game with a shorthanded goal, and Stefan Ruzicka finished off the scoring with a power play goal for the home team.
The Pens ran off three consecutive goals in a 21 minute span. Paul Bissonnette grabbed his first AHL tally of the year 14:12 into the game to tie the score, before Tim Brent gave the Penguins the lead four minutes into the second period. The goal was Brent's second in as many games, and stretched his scoring streak to three games.
Brent picked up another point with an assist on Ryan Stone's second period goal, which turned out to be the game-winner.
Curry stopped 18 shots in the final period to pick up his 14th win of the season. |
